Heritage Place Equestrian/T.R.E.A.T. Policies and Rulebook
Programs Riders
- All T.R.E.A.T./Special Olympic riders must send in completed forms (4 pages) medical release forms must be signed and returned before riding lessons begin. Evaluation of rider must be preformed by Heritage Place/T.R.E.A.T team before sessions.
- Contract for services must be completed day of session or prior to session.
- Non-T.R.E.A.T RIDERS must have completed all required paper work and met with the Rider Instructor and/or Executive Director.
When forms have been completed, the treatment team will evaluate, set goals, and issue a riding contract at this time. Heritage Place/T.R.E.A.T. does retain the right to deny services based on evaluation.
Treatment Plan and Goals
- Goals will be evaluated on an on going bases (after each session, or during session) to meet the needs of the individual rider and his abilities.
- Riders' files must be evaluated by Executive Director every six months. Files will be evaluated for documentation, methodology, goal setting and accomplishment.
- Riders' goals will be documented in an approved Heritage Place/T.R.E.A.T file and kept in a locked file cabinet in the barn office.
- Responsible Riding Instructor will maintain records after each lesson. Riding Instructor may bring any treatment issues to weekly meeting to be discussed and documented.
Session Standards
A session will last approximately 60 minuets. Each riding lesson will include basic horsemanship, grooming, tack care, mounted riding time, instruction about horse behavior, horse anatomy and SAFTEY!!!!
Each rider will be taking an active part in tacking and un-tacking their assigned horse. Incase of bad weather during a lesson the lesson can be moved to the barn for barn-management/classroom activities.
Session can also be geared for FUN i.e. painting a horse, water gun fights, basketball, egg/spoon races, or other chosen activities.
Dress Code
All riders must wear long pants, a shirt, and shoes/boots with ½ inch heel. If rider is unable to meet any of these requirements due to medical reason they must be approved by a physician and treatment team. We also require each rider to have a SEI-ASTM helmet that fits properly and is approved by the Riding Instructor. We can provide helmets but strongly suggest purchasing your own due to size.
Conduct Policies
Parent/Rider/Volunteers are to wait in a designated area.Arival Time
We encourage all riders to arrive 15 minutes early to your session appropriately dressed.
Riders must remain in the designated waiting area until called for their riding session.
During Riding Session
We encourage parents to remain on-site during their child's riding session if at all possible.
- No loud noises, clapping, or calling to our riders is allowed.
- Please do not take pictures with flashbulbs unless approved.
- No running or fast hand movements near our horses during, or after lessons.
- Be courteous to your fellow rider's and their families.
After Riding Session
- After the riding session the rider will be returned to their parent/guardian.
- Drinks will be provided after session in designated waiting area.
- Please use this time to speak with your child's riding instructor, about scheduling, sickness or any other issues. Keep in mind the instructor will have 20 minutes between lessons.
Attendance Policy
Heritage Place/T.R.E.A.T attendance policy is as follows: We require riders to attend lessons on timely bases. Rider will give one week notice of cancellation or of rescheduling. In the case of EXTREME EMERGENCIES it is understood that arrangements for a make-up session will be considered. If a rider misses more than two consecutive scheduled sessions the rider will be removed from the program and will receive no refund.
Late Policy
IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT IF A RIDER IS MORE THAN 15 MINUTES LATE FOR HIS/HER SESSION THAT THE SESSION IS CONSIDERED CANCELLED AT THE DESCRITION OF THE RIDING INSTRUCTOR.
Vacations
In the case of vacations we would like to have a three week notice so we can better schedule our sessions.
Make-Up Policy
If session is cancelled due to bad weather, by the Head Riding Instructor, death in the family, or medical absence (with doctors note), please speak to the Head Riding Instructor to reschedule sessions. Saturday's will be when most make-ups will be scheduled.
Disciplinary Policy
Examples of discipline problems:
Any disruption to class, chronic behavior problems, or failure to follow rules, policies, or written or verbal instructions.
- Riders will be given one verbal warning and if mounted will be removed from the horse and placed in the waiting area.
- Second offense rider will be given a written warning and the parent/guardian will be notified immediately. Rider will be removed from horse and placed into the waiting area.
- Third offense rider will be removed and dropped from the program.
**Team members reserve the right to have the rider "work" through their choices in behavior using "Love and Logic" techniques. Good choices will result in more fun. ******
These rules apply to all Volunteers/Parents/Team Members/Guests
Heritage Place Equestrian/T.R.E.A.T. WILL REMOVE A RIDER, VOLUNTEER, GUEST, PARENT, TEAM MEMBER OR ANYOTHER INDIVIDUAL FROM OUR PROGRAM FOR SEXUAL COMMENTS OR SEXUAL CONDUCT
Age and Weight Policy derived from NARHA standards.
Age: No therapeutic rider under the age of four. No maximum limit on age is necessary the person just must be able bodied or to be mounted and dismounted safely.
Weight: Staff members must feel confident in their abilities to mount and dismount an individual safely. Our weight table is as follows:
